Maryland JUCO Names October Student Athletes of the Month
BALTIMORE (November 13, 2017) – The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) today announced that it has selected Cristian Alfaro (men’s soccer), Rachael Bohli (women’s soccer), Sarah Blevins (volleyball), Hassan Eissa (men’s cross country), and Abigail Starks (women’s cross country) as its Student Athletes of the Month for October 2017.
Alfaro (Howard Community College | Reservoir H.S.) scored 6 goals on 17 shots (10 on goal) in nine games in October, including two in the NJCAA Region XX Division III semifinal round against Prince George's Community College and one in the final against Northern Virginia Community College (Springfield, Va.). The Dragons went 8-1 in October and captured the Division III regional title.
Bohli (Harford Community College | Perry Hall H.S.) scored 15 goals in six games, including eight in the NJCAA Region XX Division I tournament, with five coming in a 9-1 defeat of CCBC Essex in the finals. She had three games with three or more goals and was named to the All-Region XX Division I Tournament Team.
Blevins (Cecil College | Solanco H.S.) registered 263 assists (32.9/game) and 26 service aces for the Seahawks in eight games. She compiled 40 assists or more in three matches, averaging 8.77 per set. She finished her freshman season with 601 assists, good for fourth place in Maryland JUCO.
Eissa (Harford Community College | Homeschool) picks up this award for the second consecutive month and continues to be a standout on the Fighting Owls men’s cross country team. In October, he won the Goucher College Invitational (8k) and Maryland JUCO and Region XX Division I championship meets. Eissa also finished fouth at the Hood College Invitational 8k (26:59).
Starks (Howard Community College | Marriotts Ridge H.S.), known also for her prowess on the lacrosse field, finished second at the Hood College Invitational, behind only an NCAA Division I runner from Catholic University. She followed that runner up finish by winning the Maryland JUCO and Region XX Division III meets by nearly a full minute.
