BEL AIR, Md. - The 2015 All-MD JUCO Men's Basketball Teams were released as voted on by the league's coaches. Frederick's Emonte Hill, coach of the Regular Season Champion Cougars, earned Coaches Association Coach of the Year and Allegany's Billy Giles nabbed Player of the Year honors.
Hill helped execute a successful worst-to-first campaign in 2014-15. The Cougars were just 2-12 in conference play in 2013-14, but rebounded with an 11-3 campaign this season and the conference title. Frederick was the top seed in the MD JUCO Tournament, reaching the Championship Game, and will be the top seed in this weekend's Region XX Championships.
Giles was a dominant force for the Trojans, leading the MD JUCO in scoring and rebounding. He totaled 23.9 ppg and 14.8 rpg, both well above the next closest student-athlete. Giles scored in double figures in every contest and totaled double digit rebound totals in all but one game, where he nabbed nine boards. He pulled in a career-high 23 rebounds three times, including two victories against Chesapeake, and a personal-best 40 points in a loss to Northern Virginia.
The lone freshman on the First-Team was Fa'Teem Glenn from Cecil. He ranked second in the conference with 18.8 ppg while leading the way with 9.9 assists per game. Glenn tallied a career-best 32 points in a win over Northern Virginia and dished out a personal-high of 14 assists a loss at Potomac State and a win over Anne Arundel. He totaled a three triple-doubles on the year, including a 23-point, 14-assist, 10-rebound effort against the Pioneers.
Garrett's DeAndre Davis, the league's No. 2 rebounder, also landed on the First-Team. Davis ranked fourth in scoring with 16.8 ppg and first in field goal percentage with 62.6 percent shooting, to go along with his 11.0 rpg. The Lakers' big man netted double digits in 25 contests and recorded 16 double-doubles. He had his best game of the season statistically with 27 points and 21 rebounds in the season opener against WVU Parkersburg.
Harford's Brandon Spain landed on the First-Team despite missing the first half of the season with an injury. The point guard of the MD JUCO Tournament Champions would rank second in scoring with 20.1 ppg if he would qualify with the games played percentage. His 6.5 apg total would be third, behind co-leaders Glenn and CCBC Dundalk's Brandon Fields. He led Harford to a 13-2 record in the second half of the season.
Frederick's Taeshun Hoffman rounded out the First-Team. The top player for the Regular Season Champs led the Cougars with 16.2 ppg, a total that ranks eighth in the conference. He tallied double digits in all but two games, including a career-high 23 point effort against Manor College.
