CSM Women’s Soccer Opens Season Ranked 10th Nationally

The College of Southern Maryland’s Women’s Soccer team is ready to charge out of the gate after being ranked 10th nationally in pre-season rankings by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The Lady Hawks completed a historic 2013 season with the most wins in program history with 17 and claimed its first-ever Region XX and District L titles, while earning a berth to the NJCAA Division I national tournament. Head Coach Adam Sanchez earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Regional Coach of the Year, the Region XX Coach of the Year and Maryland Junior College (MDJUCO) Coach of the Year awards.

The team of 12 freshman and 12 sophomore players is set to kick off the first game of the season against Monroe Community College of Rochester, New York, on Aug. 29. “The women have been practicing hard since the beginning of August and they are anxious to get back out on the field and show the country that they deserved to be ranked a pre-season top 10 team. The team had a phenomenal showing last season and they want to prove that it was not a fluke and they have the ability to play with nationally ranked competition,” said CSM Athletic Coordinator Nick Williams.
