The Montgomery College men's soccer team won the DIII NJCAA Region XX Soccer Tournament for the third year in a row. On Thursday, October 30 MC played Oxford College in the opening round of the tournament. Freshman Osanie Reid found the back of the net in the first three minutes for the Raptors. The Raptors scored 5 goals in the first half and 3 goals in the second half to win 8-0.
On Friday, October 31st the Raptors played Howard CC in the semi-final round. Freshman, Joshua Oduyoye scored in the 37th minute put the Raptors ahead. MC led 1-0 at halftime. Howard scored half way through the second half tying the match at 1-1. Prior to this match, the Raptors have not been scored on since September. Regulation time would conclude with the score tied. The Raptors wasted no time in extra time. Sophomore Gabriel N'Diaye scored 6 minutes and 34 seconds into overtime to boost the Raptors to victory and solidify their spot in the Championship game.
On Sunday, November 2nd the Raptors played Anne Arundel Community College in the championship game. Anne Arundel played MC very strong but it wasn't enough to advance. MC Freshman, Raphael Pacano scored in the 25th minute to give the Raptors the advantage. The first goal proved to be enough to win the match. Montgomery College defeated Anne Arundel CC 2-0. Raphael Pacano, Brandon McKoy, Jonathan Barron, and Fabrice Mbah were named to the All-Tournament team for the Raptors.
Montgomery College will travel to Herkimer College in Herkimer, NY this week to compete in the NJCAA DIII National Championship Tournament. They enter the tournament the #3 seed and will play #6 Cayuga Community College in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m.
