BALTIMORE (December 22, 2020) – The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland Juco) is proud to announce that on December 4, 2020, the conference athletic trainer's group announced it had voted Amber Stanley (Anne Arundel Community College) and Tim Happel (Howard Community College) as Co-Athletic Trainers of the Year for the 2019-2020 athletic year.

The Maryland Juco Athletic Trainers/Training Staff of the Year award is voted on annually by all athletic trainers within the Maryland Juco Athletic Conference.

Stanley (nee Kelso) joined the Riverhawks in 2016 after serving as athletic trainer to several high school athletic programs in central Maryland, including Archbishop Spalding and Southern High School in Anne Arundel County. She earned her Bachelor of Science in athletic training from Elon University and a Master of Science in exercise sport science from Marshall University, where she spent two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. She has also worked with professional and semi-professional teams in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area, including the Arbutus Big Red (Mason Dixon Football League) and the D.C. Current (Major League Ultimate).

"Amber is well deserving for this award," said Anne Arundel Athletic Director Duane Herr. "She not only provides the highest level of care and support to our student-athletes on a daily basis, but operates with the same level of care for our visiting opponents. Amber is a fantastic athletic trainer and we are very lucky to have her at AACC and in MDJUCO."

Stanley is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) and serves as treasurer of the Maryland Athletic Trainers' Association (MATA).

Happel joined Howard in 2010 as the athletic trainer for the Dragons. His enjoyment for the success of the Howard Athletics is only surpassed by his unfailing care for the well-being of every student-athlete. Over the years, Tim has grown to have more of a leadership role in the Maryland Juco athletic trainers' organization in order to help advance student-athlete care for the entire region.

"Congratulations to our own Tim Happel for being honored by his peers as one of the best athletic trainers in Maryland," said Howard Athletic Director Erin Foley. "Howard is lucky to have his expertise and outstanding work ethic on our staff. He has been serving our student-athletes for the last 10 years and has been a vital member of our department. His passion for his work and care for our student-athletes has been unwavering."

Happel is a graduate of Towson University for his bachelor's degree along with a master's from the California University of Pennsylvania. He continues to work in all ranks of the field from youth sports to high school, and collegiate to professional sports.
