HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Hagerstown's Grant Smith won his second shot put title of the year over the weekend, at the NJCAA Division I Track & Field National Championships.
Smith's fourth throw of the event, his first throw of the finals, earned him the title, a toss of 17.38 meters. He reached the finals with his first throw of the day (16.89m).
Smith, who claimed the Indoor Track & Field shot put title in March, joins rare company in Hagerstown history of winning a pair of National Titles. Former Hawks Jeff Scuffins, Mike Pazcuzzo and Terry Baker were also two-time NJCAA National Champions in Track & Field.
The Hawks took 20th place overall, with 10 points.
