COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Five MD JUCO baseball players were honored by the NJCAA with postseason accolades, as the national office announced NJCAA All-Americans, NJCAA Marucci Elite Hitter and ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award Winners. Montgomery's Tyler Coleman was the big winner, claiming all three awards as a freshman outfielder for the Raptors.
Five MD JUCO diamond all-stars were named All-American by the national office. Coleman and his Montgomery classmate Antonio Pino were DIII representatives, Hagerstown's Phil Pietro claimed the award from DI, Cecil's Izzack Albright earned DII honors and Prince George's Abdiel Marcano was also named DIII All-American.
Pietro and Coleman were named Elite Hitters after their impressive offensive campaigns. Pietro garnered the honor for DI's Eastern District, beating out all players from Region X, XV and XX. Coleman was the DIII District winner. Coleman and Marcano were fancy with their outfield gloves, earning Gold Glove honors for DIII.
Coleman led the MD JUCO and ranked third in the nation with a .500 batting average (55-for-110). He didn't committ and error in the outfield, making 51 putouts and five assists during the season. He score 28 runs and stole 15 bases for the Raptors.
Pino ranked eighth in the conference with a .403 clip (50-for-124) scoring 33 times and knocking in 15 more runs. His .456 on-base percentage ranked 14th among MD JUCO performers.
Pietro led DI with a .473 batting average, claiming All-American and Elite Hitter status. He had 23 multiple hit games and had 71 total hits for the Hawks.
Albright ranked second in the conference with 11 home runs, 79 hits and 20 doubles en route to his DII honors. The sophomore third baseman ranked fourth with a .504 on-base percentage and first with a .786 slugging percentage.
Marcano was a two-way threat for the Owls, hitting .444 and fielding at a .990 clip to earn a pair of postseason awards. His 29 stolen bases led the MD JUCO and his 55 hits ranked 19th in the conference. He made 93 putouts with just one error on the season.
