Mattison Selected By Padres

FREDERICK, Md.- Former Frederick Community College NJCAA DII National Player of the Year Chris Mattison was selected in the Major League Baseball Draft by the San Diego Padres in the 16th round (pick 474).

"I was a nervous wreck waiting for my name to be called," said Mattison of draft weekend. "It got to the point where I couldn't watch it anymore, so I was in my room playing PlayStation when it happened. It's a very exciting day for us."
 
This past season Chris played at Southeastern University. He was named First Team All-Sun Conference, hitting .398 with 19 doubles and 15 home runs. He earned a Gold Glove from the conference at first base, registering a .991 fielding percentage.

"We are extremely proud of him and a dream come true," said FCC Head Baseball Coach Rodney Bennett.  "He's worked hard for this and it is well deserved."

At FCC, Mattison was the first student-athlete in school history to earn National Player of the Year honors. During this record-setting year, Mattison finished with a .527 batting average, 108 hits, 12 homers, and 87 RBI.  During the 2015 season, he broke six FCC individual single season records and registered a 31-game hit streak. 

The FCC baseball team finished the 2015 season ranked No. 2 nationally with a remarkable 50-9 record, were the Region XX DII champions & Northeast District Champions, earning a trip to NJCAA DII World Series in Enid, Oklahoma.
