WINCHESTER, VA -- The Maryland JUCO Athletic Conference announced on September 26 that it had selected Melissa Miller, Administrator of Campus Athletic Programs at CCBC Catonsville, the 2016-2017 conference's Athletic Director of the Year.
The award is voted on by the athletic directors of the conference's 16-member institutions and recognizes individual, program, and professional excellence in five areas: academics, sportsmanship, athletics, contributions to the conference, and professional development.
"This award is a reflection of the leadership Melissa has brought to the campus and the formidable talents of the CCBC Catonsville's coaching and support staff," said Brian Farrell, CCBC Director of College Athletics. "I feel Melissa is most deserving when reviewing the award criteria."
Miller is entering her fourth year leading the Cardinals. Program accomplishments during the 2016-2017 year included an NJCAA Region XX Division II baseball title, Maryland JUCO Conference softball championship, individual NJCAA Region XX Division I men's cross country champion, seven NJCAA All-Americans individual awards, 23 NJCAA Region XX individual awards and 21 Maryland JUCO Conference individual awards.
CCBC Catonsville Athletics fund raised approximately $75,000 last academic year, providing 77 student athletes NJCAA scholarships totaling $60,850.
Miller has served as the Maryland JUCO softball liaison each of her three years at CCBC Catonsville. She is also the NJCAA Region XX Softball Chairperson.
She is a current member of the Maryland JUCO Advisory Council and Maryland JUCO Membership Committee. Miller also recently participated in five CCBC professional development activities and revamped departmental sportsmanship and code of conduct policies.
