Maryland JUCO Names January Student Athletes of the Month

BALTIMORE (February 13, 2018) – The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) today announced that it has selected Demarcus Demonia (men's basketball) and Emily Truitt (women's basketball) as its Student Athletes of the Month for January 2018.

Demonia (Allegany College of Maryland | C.H. Flowers H.S.) averaged 21.7 points per game, shot 60.2% from the field, 41.9% from behind the arc, averaged 4.1 assists per game and 8.9 rebounds per game in January. He led the Trojans to an 8-1 record for the month and ranks eighth in conference scoring, averaging 17.8 per game for the season.

On January 10, Demonia scored 24 points in an 80-78 victory over Chesapeake College. Three nights later, he dropped 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting (4-8 three pointers) to help the Trojans give Harford its only conference loss of the regular season. Demonia scored a career-high 30 points on January 18 in a 109-91 win over CCBC Catonsville.

Truitt (Chesapeake College | Sussex Central H.S.) finished January averaging 24.8 points per game on 41.4% shooting from the field. She hit 41.5% of her three point attempts, 78.9% of her free throws and pulled down 4.3 rebounds per game. Truitt is the second leading scorer in the conference this season, averaging 20.5 points per game.

On January 10, she narrowly missed tying her career-high of 40 points in a single-game as she finished with 39 in an 83-58 victory against Allegany. That night Truitt finished 12-22 from the floor (54.5%), 10-18 on three pointers (55.6%) and made 5-of-6 free throw attempts.
