Maryland Juco Names September Athletes of the Month

BALTIMORE (October 15, 2019) – The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) today announced that it has selected Anderson Marroquin (men's soccer), Kara Dietrich (women's soccer), Kira Ng (volleyball), Henry Schmidt (men's cross country), and Khelsa (women's cross country) as its Athletes of the Month for September 2019.  

Marroquin (Howard Community College | Hammond H.S.)
Scored 15 goals in 11 games, including four game-winners. He scored the golden goal in a 4-3 overtime victory against CCBC Catonsville (Aug. 28) and finished with four goals in a 6-3 win over Division I Harcum College (Aug. 31). He led the conference in shots, goals, and points during the first month of the season.    

Dietrich (CCBC Essex | Perry Hall H.S.)
Jumped started the Knights offense during the first month of the season, scoring 30 goals (third most in NJCAA Division I during September) and assisting on five others for a total of 67 points. The Knights went 12-1 and defeated four NJCAA ranked opponents. Dietrich's efforts earned her NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors for September 23-29.

Ng (Montgomery College | Magruder H.S.)
A truly impressive start to the season, Ng totaled 245 assist in the month of September. She had a game and career-high 44 assists in a 3-0 win against Potomac State (Sept. 26). The Raptors went 12-0 in the first month and did not drop a set, as Ng had six games with 30 or more assists.

Schmidt (Hagerstown Community College | Boonsboro H.S.)
Schmidt won the Mont Alto Cross Country Invitational. He was also the top junior college finisher at the Galen Piper Cross Country Challenge held at Shippensburg University (13th overall), the Hood College Blazer Twilight Meet (3rd overall), and the Hornet Harrier hosted by Shenandoah University (5th overall).

Connolly (Hagerstown Community College | Linganore H.S.)
Connolly was just as impressive as her Hawks' schoolmate, also winning Mont Alto Cross Country Invitational, and finishing as the top junior college runner at the Galen Piper Cross Country Challenge (22nd overall), Hood College Blazer Twilight Meet (15th overall), and the Hornet Harrier (30th overall).
