Maryland Juco Announces October Athletes of the Month

BALTIMORE (November 25, 2019) – The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) today announced that it has selected Anderson Marroquin (men's soccer), Madalyn Nichols (women's soccer), Alyssa Shoemaker (volleyball), Henry Schmidt (men's cross country), and Khelsa Connolly (women's cross country) as its Athletes of the Month for October 2019.  

Marroquin (Howard Community College | Hammond H.S.)
Broke the Howard single-season and career records for most goals in program history. Scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Prince George's and then scored a hat trick in a win over Harford. Led the conference in goals (28) and was second in the NJCAA Division III for the year.

Nicols (Howard Community College | Glenelg H.S.)
Led the Dragons to a five game winning streak with the game winning goal in all five games and scoring hat tricks in four. Scored in five of six games in the month. Broke the record for most goals in a single season in program history with 29 (previous best was 19).

Shoemaker (Hagerstown Community College | Williamsport H.S.)
Helped lead Hagerstown to a win over Montgomery in a regular season battle of two unbeaten teams with 28 digs in the match. She recorded 78 digs in the five Maryland Juco matches for the month, as the Hawks went 9-0 in October.

Schmidt (Hagerstown Community College | Boonsboro H.S.)
Henry Schmidt won the Maryland Juco individual championship and led Hagerstown to the conference team championship on October 26th running 27:13.8, finishing ahead of the rest of the pack by more than 20 seconds and setting a new course record.  

Connolly (Hagerstown Community College | Linganore H.S.)
Led all runners at the Maryland Juco Region XX championships to earn the conference individual championship with a time of 21:15.3.
