BALTIMORE (January 16, 2020) – The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) today announced that it has selected Isaiah Jennings (men's basketball) and Mya Moye (women's basketball) as its Athletes of the Month for December 2020.
Jennings (Montgomery College | Woodrow Wilson H.S.)
In five games played in November, the Washington, D.C. native averaged 28.4 points per game, while shooting 53.8% (49-91) from the field and averaged 9.8 rebounds per game, as Montgomery went 3-2 for the month. The sophomore currently leads the conference and Region XX Division II and is fourth in NJCAA Division II with 24.3 points per game. His 364 total points rank 8th in the nation, while his 9.9 rebounds per game are second best in the conference, third in the region and 19th in the nation.
He scored 25 or more points in all five games, including a double-double on 33 points and 13 rebounds in a 95-88 win on December 7th against a Garrett College team that over the last month has received votes in the national poll. In November, Jennings recorded his first collegiate triple-double on 23 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in a 96-77 win against Essex County College at the Sullivan Tip-off Classic.
Moye (CCBC Essex | Anacostia H.S.)
This is the second month in a row that Moye has earned the honor. In nine December games, the Florida A&M University transfer averaged 21 points, 6.8 assists and three steals per game, while hitting 83.8% (57-68) of her free throws. She shot 35.9% from the field and made 33.8% of her three-point attempts. Moye scored in double digits in all nine games and had five games with 20 or more points, as the Knights went 8-1 in December. On December 18th, the sophomore had a double-double on 32 points (9-20) and 12 assists as the Knights defeated Chesapeake 94-70, giving the Skipjacks its first regional loss this season.
December 27-29 at the National Title IX Tournament in Washington D.C., Moye helped lead the Knights to the Junior College title and was voted Tournament MVP. She averaged 22.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and four steals per game, while shooting 38.3% from the field, 36.4% behind the arc and 82% from the line during the three-day tournament. For all of her efforts, Moye earned NJCAA Women's Basketball Division II Player of the Week (December 16-January 5) honors.
