ARNOLD, Md. – The first NJCAA DIII Cross Country National Coaches' Rankings of the 2016-17 season was released on Tuesday, Sept. 14 and the Riverhawks of Anne Arundel Community College found themselves ranked No. 8 in the National Ranking.
Last year, the Riverhawks finished the season strong as they took fourth place at the National Championship, narrowly missing third place, and a spot on the podium, by one point.
Returners Sidney Hinkle and Romina Montes Rodriguez are joined this season by Madelyn Argumedo, Shannon Martin, Hannah Peterson, MacKenzie Schwartz, Caitlin Shriver and Crystal Warffuel.
The Riverhawks performed well at its first meet and will continue to work hard as the season progresses.
"It is great that our women, and the program, received some national recognition in the first poll, as it is one of the few times that we have been ranked in the initial poll of the season," said head coach Jim Griffiths, who is in his ninth year as head coach.
"Obviously, races are not won based on rankings and we have a lot of work to do if they want to repeat the successes of last year; however, it is a good starting point!"
The Riverhawks will travel to Rowan University in New Jersey to compete in the Bill Fritz Invitational Meet on Saturday. The race begins at 11:00 a.m.
