FREDERICK, Md. -- The Howard Community College cross country program made the short trip to Utica Park on Saturday to complete in the Hood College Invitational, as the men placed fift and the women seventh out of fourteen colleges.
The Dragons were the top community college in the field.
Corey Young continued to lead the Dragon men placing 15th with a time of 27:23 for the five mile race.
He was followed by Abraham Samuel 31st/28:09, Ryan Clocker 37th/28:25, Scott Camp 39th/28:34, Garrett Birsa 50th/28:56, Nick Miguelino 88th/31:50 and Andrew Kastner 95th/32:25.
Abbey Starks placed 15th in the women's 6K with a time of 24:51.
She was closely followed by Amani Jones 18th/25:10, Brenda Rosas 32nd/25:49, Brittany Nixon 94th/30:47 and Kirsten Murrill 99th/31:13.
"Overall all, it was a pretty good day for the programs," said coach Steve Musselman. "All the students were very competitive and we saw some positive improvements."
The program will travel to Lake Fairfax Regional Park this Saturday to compete at the NJCAA Region XX/Maryland JUCO Championships.
Women will race at 10:00 a.m. and the men at 11:00 a.m.
The Dragons' men are the defending NJCAA Region XX and Maryland JUCO champions.
