GLASSBORO, N.J. -- On Sept. 14, the first USTFCCCA National Polls of 2016 were released and the Howard Community College men's cross country team earned the No. 2 NJCAA Division-III spot in the country.
Armed with its most recent accolade, the Dragons' cross country program traveled to Rowan University (Glassboro, N.J.) on Saturday to compete in the Bill Fritz Invitational.
Amani Jones (Oakland Mills) was the top placer for the women, running 25:57 in the 6K race.
She was followed by Brenda Rosas (Wilde Lake) 26:42, Brittany Nixon (Oakland Mills) 33:47 and Bianca Chibanu (Atholton) 44:32.
"On the women's side, we were dealing with some service project commitments and an injury," said head cross country coach Steve Musselman. "We will be fine the rest of the season."
Ryan Clocker (Kent Island) led the men to a tenth place finish out of seventeen teams.
His time of 28:28 for the 8K race led him to 52nd place. He was followed by Corey Young (Springbrook) 28:35/54th, Scott Camp (Springbrook) 29:40/67th, Garrett Birsa (Glenelg) 29:44/70th and Nick Miguelino (Howard) 32:48 for 86th.
"This was a very fast race for them to be involved in" said Musselman. "They need to experience quality races as we prepare for the national championship in November."
The program will make its annual trip to North Carolina this weekend to compete in the Greensboro Invitational and will run in the NCAA D-III division, as they are are only community college in the field.
