BALTIMORE -- The men's Maryland JUCO Basketball tournament is just over five weeks away (February 16-19 at Chesapeake College) and conference foes continue to battle to be one of eight teams to earn a spot.
Garrett and Harford currently hold the top conference spot with 6-1 records.
The Lakers boast five scorers averaging double digits in Malik Tunc (12.5 points per game), Jafar Musa (11.9 ppg), Shane Chikerema (10.9 ppg), Miguel Rodriguez (10.9 ppg) and Ariel Watson (10.6 ppg). Tunc also leads the team with 9.5 rebounds per game, fifth most in the conference.
Harford County's Fighting Owls are led by the trio of Micah Till (15.5 ppg), Isaiah White (13.2ppg) and Aaron McDonald (12.8 ppg). Till's 248 points and McDonald's 217 points rank fifth and tenth in the conference, respectively, while White's 38.9% three-point success rate is tenth best.
Prince George's (4-1), CCBC Catonsville (7-2) and Baltimore City (3-1) have the next three best conference records.
Mykal Johnson (14.6 ppg), Kennith Ford (11.7 ppg), Alex Morales (11.2 ppg) and Jaylin Johnson (10.1 ppg) lead the Owls in scoring. Mykal also leads his team in field goal (44.1%) and three-point shooting percentage (36.8%).
The Cardinals' Everette Coker (18.1 ppg), Ke'Andre Gibson (17.9 ppg) and Montaque Wright (17.8 ppg) are third, fourth and fifth, in the conference for scoring, respectively. Coker leads Maryland JUCO with 290 total points and Gibson is third with 268.
The Panthers feature four scorers with 10 points per game or more in Joe Hugley (15.5 ppg), Haneef Vaughn-Wilson (12 ppg), Deion Evans (11.4 ppg) and Chad Andrews-Fulton (11.3 ppg). Hugley is ranked sixth in the conference with 234 points.
Montgomery (4-2), CCBC Dundalk (4-2), Southern Maryland (3-3) and Frederick (3-3) round out the teams that currently have a record of .500 or better in the conference.
Colin Turner (17.2 ppg) and Patrick Smith (17 ppg) lead the Raptors in scoring and are ranked eighth and ninth, respectively, in the conference. Chris Johnson (14.3 ppg) and Andre Hodo (10 ppg) are also scoring in double digits.
Mike White (17.7 ppg) leads the Lions in scoring - seventh in the Maryland JUCO - and is No. 2 in the conference with a 49% three-point percentage. Donte Jafah-Winfield (15.4 ppg) and Robert Goodwin (11 ppg) are Dundalk's other top scorers.
For the Hawks, Anthony Williams' 18.4 points per game are second in the conference and his 257 points are fourth highest in Maryland JUCO. David Francis (13.7 ppg), Levon Randall (11.5 ppg), Devin Allen (11.4 ppg) and Jordan Battle (11.1 ppg) are also in double digits.
Anthony Isaac (12.9 ppg) and Tyre Gathright (11.9) headline the Cougars. Isaac's 9.4 rebounds per game rank sixth in Maryland JUCO.
The rest of the conference includes Hagerstown (2-4), Howard (2-4), Allegany (1-4), Cecil (1-5), Anne Arundel (1-7) and Chesapeake (0-7).
