BEL AIR, MD. – Harford women's basketball star Daisa Harris was honored with the NJCAA Division I Player of the Week award for the week of January 23 to January 29. This is the second time in the history of the Fighting Owls women's basketball program that a student-athlete has won this national award.
During the week, Harris averaged 26.7 points per game, 10.3 rebounds per game, 6.0 assists per game, and 3.0 steals per game in three massive contests for the team. So far this year, Harris leads the nation in total points scored with 473 and steals per game with 4.2.
The sophomore guard who earned a second team All-American award last year started off the week against district rivals ASA, knocking off the powerhouse on the back of Harris' 12 points and 6 assists. Two days later Daisa had a career night against the Montgomery Raptors, a team ranked #7 in the NJCAA Division III polls, scoring 40 points along with 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Harris capped off the week traveling to a Garrett College team that is ranked 15thin the NJCAA DII polls and dropping another 28 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists in a fantastic 84-80 victory for the Fighting Owls.
Daisa Harris is well on her way to cementing her name in the Harford record books, as she is just 26 points away from becoming the fourth player in program history to score 1,000 career points. She has already surpassed the career assists record with 378; 72 more than the previous record set by Ashley Smith between 2013-2015. Harris is also closing in on the career steals record, needing just 29 more to top that category.
The Fighting Owls women's basketball team is enjoying unparalleled success this season with a 21-2 overall record and 12-0 in the conference. In fact, the only two losses this season have come against the #1 and #3 ranked teams in the NJCAA Division I during a road trip to Florida.
Statistically, Harford has been the most dominant team in the country, leading the nation in points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game, steals per game, and are second in blocks per game.
Harford has also clinched its third straight conference regular season championship, as head coach Mike Seney is now 45-0 in his three-year career against conference opponents.
